The Lighting of the Tree

admin December 9th, 2007

On December 2, 2007, the Eastwood Chamber of Commerce presented The Lighting of the Tree at Greenway Park (Corner of James St. and Grant Blvd.)

Mike Behnke of the Chamber reports, “The tree lighting went great. There were at least 100 to 125 happy souls who braved the cold and rain to see the tree lit up. The Mayor did the honors with kids from the crowd; later we all went to the Palace and a good time was had by all. I can see this event growing every year. Steve Skinner did a great job as MC and Pastor Bill from the Wesleyan church led the group in a prayer. It was a special night indeed.”

The Palace Theatre opened its doors to the crowd, showing the movie “Elf”. Pizza was provided by Original Italian Pizza, coffee by Cafe Kubal and cocoa by Laci’s Cafe at the Palace.

A mall in Eastwood

admin May 10th, 2007

palace.jpg Imagine a mall as long as the James Street business district in Eastwood. Not too difficult, is it? How about a couple anchor stores? We have the Palace Theatre complex at one end of that business district and the historic Eastwood Plaza (the first strip mall in Syracuse) at the other. Both are vibrant places with a lot of exciting business going on in them!

Now picture the kind of stores you’d like in this community-oriented mall. Places that serve the needs of the residents, like a hardware store and an ice cream stand, and places that attract folks from all over the city, like a hat store, independent book stores, a great restaurant and a cafe or two. We have all of this already. Keep filling in those little spots in between our two great anchors and you have a place to shop, meet your neighbors and enjoy an environment that can’t be found anywhere else.
